Robotic Filament Winding Equipment

TANIQ is specialized in robotic filament winding machines. In 2007, when almost all filament winding was done on CNC machines, TANIQ developed their first robotic filament winding machine . Making use of the extended motion range and reachability of these robots, enabled TANIQ to automate the winding of complex shaped specialty products. With the rapid developments in composite pressure vessels resulting in more advanced designs, including hybrid solutions combining tape winding and placement, the advantages of using robots for manufacturing of COPVs are increasing. TANIQ develops robotic filament winding systems for wet winding and towpreg winding, using auxiliary fiber tensioners, and AFP systems for winding and placement of thermoset and thermoplastic tapes.

TANIQ has 18 years of robotic filament winding experience and is the only company in the world having FW software with a dedicated robotic post-processor, making TANIQ the go-to company for your robotic winding solution.

Maximize your winding performance with a TANIQ winding robot

TANIQ has developed a large variety of filament winding machines for clients worldwide. Each machine has been custom designed and configured to meet the client’s requirements, providing maximum performance at the lowest cost. Using our 18 years of robotic winding experience makes us the go-to supplier for your winding robot.

To determine the optimal machine configuration we typically start with the product dimensions and winding process (e.g. thermoset towpreg). From there, we design the type of robot arm needed and its relative position to the spindle. If needed, the robot can be placed on a track to increase its reachability. Another important aspect is the guiding of the materials to the winding tool. Depending on the material type and number of fibers/tapes a tensioner system is designed. For large products, the robot can be positioned on a track, and a large number of creels move on the track alongside the robot.

In another type of configuration, the robot holds and rotates the mandrel, while guiding the product by a winding tool on a fixed position. The advantage of this configurationis the minimum feed through length and guiding of the material. This solution is limited in product size since the robot needs to hold and manipulate the mandrel.

Configurations

TANIQ’s robotic filament winding equipment uses modular building blocks, which can be configured to optimize the winding process. Most building blocks can be configured or customized for the required process. The most important building blocks are:

  • industrial robot arm + pedestal

  • Spindle / mandrel manipulator

  • Track

  • Winding Tool / AFP Head

  • Tensioner system

  • Resin bath

Modular Design

Our support doesn’t stop after developing and supplying your filament winding robot. With 18 years of filament winding experience, we are there to support our clients with their filament winding projects. Our continuous R&D on filament winding results in improved and new solutions, giving our clients access to the latest technology in filament winding.

TANIQ clients can take a service & maintenance contract, including annual maintenance of the robotic winding machine, and a service contract guaranteeing the fastest support to minimize your downtime.
